Note from the filmmaker:
The three of us in the Accidental Voyage series had sailed, dived, and explored many areas together over the years. But at the end of the day, we were always drawn to what lay beyond the distant horizon--the unknown. None of us had ever been there, never crossed an ocean, never made a passage. Sure, we talked about it, but the realities of life always seemed to get in the way. But finally, after juggling jobs, families, and finances, we pooled our resources together and found a small sailboat to carry us on our maiden voyage. Into the unknown.
What follows is documented in the Accidental Voyage series.
We’ve tried to bring a first-hand account of our adventure to the viewer. Not by having a “talking head” lecture about it; but instead, by having the viewer see and experience this life through us as filmmakers. We always try to find the most compelling and interesting storylines in crafting the series to be informative, provocative, and entertaining.
In the production of Accidental Voyage, we combine unusual and dynamic camera perspectives and techniques in capturing these stories. And we always find any excuse to jump into the water for extensive underwater footage—whether unclogging a thru hull in the middle of the ocean or diving for pearls on a remote atoll. The music is carefully composed and inspired by the stories and images, and we feel helps convey some of exhilarating, terrifying, and beautiful moments in our journey. But most of all, Accidental Voyage provides an opportunity for us to share our adventures in sailing to distant shores and exploring different worlds.
We hope you enjoy the Accidental Voyage series.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
Please note that your purchase helps support Earth Science and Ocean Studies curriculum in K-12 schools in the United States. By working with the non-profit organization Donorschoose.org, we’re able identify and help teachers and students obtain educational materials they would otherwise be unable to acquire. Our goal is to help educate the sailors, scientists, and adventurers of tomorrow by providing educational opportunities that will hopefully foster a love and understanding of the oceans, the environment, and the earth.
